Here is my victim statement that I said to the Judge on the 27th of October 2009

To Judge Belot and the prosecution and the defense and people here in the court room, my name is Nancy Jensen and I am a survivor of Kaufman House. My understanding of us being here today is to look at sentencing Linda to possible more time. I want to make a statement to make clear my position as someone who lived through Kaufman House, someone who tried to get people out of Kaufman House , someone who tried to go on with her life. What I would like you to know is that I don’t want Linda held accountable because she was married to a monster. I want her to be held accountable because she was an RN a registered nurse, who took an oath at her graduation. Because she was an RN, because she used a stun gun, because she laid the medications out on the table, because she would not let us speak with our doctors without her, these are some of the main reasons I want her held accountable. She was to do no harm and she was to advocate for the people that she was to help Had we been people with diabetes or with a broken arm you would see the results of her takingcare of us. She would set the arm right and it would be healed, she would give insulin and watch our diet if we had diabetes.. It would be clear if those two things were not being done. But Linda, however, was a nurse who took care of people with mental illness, severe and persistent mental illness. the harm that she did is not easily seen because it was emotional and affected our behavior and our beliefs systems. she used our diagnosis to blame us and abuse us. so, therefore, Linda knew how to hide the harm she caused us and blamed us for.

your honor I do not know the most appropriate way to ask this question, so I’m just going to ask and trust that I asked it an appropriate way that you and others can understand. The question is to Linda. If Linda was the RN that we all trusted and believed that she was and she worked at another treatment house where someone was using a stun gun , setting out psych meds without knowing who actually took them not allowing clients to speak for themselves and video-taping the clients doing horrible things to each other, would she have kept quiet then too?

I end my statement now by just asking you Judge Belot, and others who need to know this, to put yourselves in the position the victims were in all those years. And the position their families and their significant others, who trusted the Kaufman’s, were in. We and our families trusted that the Kaufman’s , who were a therapist and an RN by law would take care of us. They did horrible things to us in the name of mental health and in the name of taking care of clients. I have trusted and am trusting now, the judgement of this court to give Linda the punishment or like they used to say the consequence of her behavior towards us, our families, and the doctors who trusted Linda as an RN thanks
